in on street in concord. christie smith is live this morning with a look at the damage. a rough way to start a week, huh, christie? >> reporter: good morning, jon. i'm sure these car owners do not want to deal with this. someone slashed the tires on 60 cars in this neighborhood. in most cases they hit all four tires. you can see two tires flattened and a van in the driveway. someone hit that one as well. two more minivans across the street. we're on the east side of clayton road. this vandalism extends to the west side. concord police got calls around 7:00 sunday morning. the more they investigated, the worse it got. vandals hit cars in the same neighborhood. concord police say it's under investigation. they haven't said anything about suspects or arrests but i can tell you within the last maybe 10 to 15 minutes or so, i did see concord police officer driving very slowly down the street with the spotlight on looking at the cars and kind of looking into homes and bushes here but just kind of cruising around. obviously they are still very much looking into this. reporting live in concord, chri

all flat too and then i came up this way and sadly everyone else was flat too. >> concord police say there's no motive and no suspect has been identified yet. >> it is still tense down in southern california, they have not caught him, but today, christopher dorner was charged with murdering a riverside police officer. riverside county said that the former cop is charged with the attempted murder of three more officers. the man hunt for dorner is massive. more than 600 tips have come in after the l.a.p.d. offered a $1 million reward for information that leads to his arrest. that offer was made over the weekend. the l.a.p.d. is stretched thin but there's no plans of reducing the size and scope of the search >> a new sporting goods for is selling guns on university avenue. the opponents think that a public hearing shove been held before approving permits for the store. the oern said he is receiving death threats at his home. tonight's meeting will talk about the permit process for gun sales. >> still ahead, he is behind one of the worst spills in the bay. why he wants to get back on the

"today in the bay's" christie smith is live in concord right now and has the rest of that story. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, jon. what a way to start the week. this is not just expensive, it's widespread. it's on several blocks here in concord. dozens of tires slashes and in most cases we're talking about all four of the tires on the vehicle like this suv. also the van there in the driveway. that one was hit. a couple more down the street. two other cars and then across the road clayton road from where we are standing bel air drive there were some tires slashed there. concord police first heard of this sunday morning around 7:00 a.m. that's when some of the car owners phoned in with the problem. at least 60 cars with their tires slashed in all and the more they looked around, the worst it got. glacier drive, bel air drive, and some of the streets actually connect here. it looks like whoever did this may have just

right now. san francisco and oakland, notice concord, 37 degrees. not too far away. as you head up to fairfield, it's 47. ten-degree swing in temperatures due to the fact if you've got the wind around mixing in warmer air from higher elevations closer to ground level, that's one of the reasons we're seeing the temperatures in the upper 40s in fairfield. where the winds are light, you've got 30s this morning around concord. some of the weather headlines, it is locally gusty. higher hill tops gusts to 35 miles per hour. they'll back off towards the evening tonight. slightly warmer temperatures around the bay area today. 60s in the forecast. second half of the week 60s, likely low 70s by the time we head towards thursday and friday. clearing off to the west. high pressure acting like a wall. at least when it comes to northern california in the bay area. storm track is cranking up. but look where it's headed, back up to the pacific northwest. this pattern not breaking down much. it will weaken slightly tomorrow, allowing more clouds to spill on in. this high is actually going to build

with seasonal averages when it comes to lows, 42 degrees in santa rosa. 44 in concord. we do have a cold front on the way. just a few hours away now from bringing in some pretty significant rainfall especially to areas in sonoma county and to marin. that will be the case as we head through 8:00 a.m. right in the heart of your morning drive the showers start to move to the south. you can see right now a nice, dry bay area. that's good news for you early risers out the door early. want to tell you what will happen through the next couple days. low pressure system crosses to our north. it will fall apart as it moves over the bay area. i think the biggest component of this system is the very cold air that trails behind that front. cold blast settles in. we don't get out of the cold until potentially wednesday of next week. want to let everybody know out there, gentlemen, men, boys, guys, one week before valentine's day arrives. don't you forget it. 54 degrees in livermore. 53 in fremont. 56 in los gatos. lots happening around here this weekend. it will be dry but a cold. temperatures still hoverin

in concord that gutted a second story unit on tioga road. barbara dell is live at the complex and joins us now. crews did a good job of containing the fire. >> reporter: kept it from spreading much further. the fire department has left within the past hour. the fire is out, the residents are safe and most of the evacuees have been allowed back inside to their homes here. this after a fire ripped through one of their neighbor's units early this morng. now, the fire department tells us the woman who live there is is very lucky she made it out unharmed. >> the good thing is that the homeowner had a working smoke alarm. it woke her up this morning and saved her life. >> without it? >> without it, she probably would have at least needed rescue and may have even killed her. >> reporter: the fire department believes the fire was accidental. that it started around a gas fireplace in that unit just before 7:00 this morning. they are still trying to figure out what was the source of ignition. the fire destroyed her unit, damaged the unit below and next door. when the fire department arrived, the fir

in santa rosa. 48 in san rafael. 50 in san jose. 49 in concord and also 50 in livermore. here is the thing, current temperatures right now in the low 40s in the north and off to the east bay, a wind 10 to 20 miles an hour making a lot of the bay area feel like the 30s this hour, even the 37 in cupertino, a slight windchill making it feel like 32. the live hd camera network. there's the cloud top buildup. we have some towering cumulus clouds in the south bay today as a sign of instability. we take you off to the north and what you notice is we do have some clearing up above but plenty of low-level instability here across san francisco. and as we also take you into downtown looks good tonight, but bring that jacket and be on the look out or fom rogue showers that once again may develop through the evening hours. back to the weather boards. enough instability through 7:00, 8:00, 9:00 to pop showers up along the coastline. by tomorrow morning we are expecting mainly clear conditions and that is going to set us up for an extremely cold start for wednesday morning. interior valleys in the upper

dozens of people who got sick after eating an event catered by the north park deli in concord. health inspects are determined at twleest employees had the virus. the inspectors say the people who prepared the food for the event did not follow proper hand washing procedures. today after inspection and a refresher course on hand washing the deli was allowed to reopen. >> and this is my livelihood. this is everything for me and my family. and for our customers to show their support and come back, it means so much to me. >> the owner of the deli says the employee who's had the virus were not showing symptoms of it which is why they kept working. >> the palo alto police department held a moving ceremony today to remember an officer killed in the line of duty. there's a twist though. he was killed four decades ago. reserve officer lester cole was hit and killed by a car as he set out flares at an accident 44 years ago today. in fact, he was the first palo alto police officer ever killed in the line of duty. today the department held an official graveside ceremony to remember him. the chief

visibility is off way in the concord and fairfield but notice lots of places even down in san jose visibility down to four miles. less than a quarter-mile in santa rosa. so allow extra time for yourself with the fog especially in the north bay. 48 in san francisco, 52 in oakland and 49 down in san jose. our jet stream way off to the north and off to the west as well, it's taking a dip, pulling in this cloud cover that you see to our south and this cloud cover not going to give us any rain but going to be with us the first half of the day so we're looking at a mix of sun and clouds through the day but the onshore flow is going to keep the foggy conditions in place at least for the first half of the day, we are expecting to see a good mix of sun and clouds by this afternoon. 61 in san francisco later this afternoon, 69 in fremont, down in san jose we'll be at 64, santa cruz not bad, 66 degrees today. few degrees cooler than we were yesterday. tomorrow more sunshine pulls back into the picture as we start to see more ridging and then as we head towards this upcoming week temperatures not too bad

. and pretty quickly, 39 in concord. 46 in novato. and down here into san jose, close to the 30s at this hour. 41 degrees. let's get you outside of the live hd sky camera network. we have lower level moisture showing up on the sky camera network, but it is all clear from the south bay right up to san francisco on the san bruno mountain camera shot. right towards the bay bridge, look at that. they're testing the bay lights tonight. i had a view of that in the city the past couple of nights as well that looks very spectacular. the camera shaking around. we have winds 5 to 10 miles per hour. it's only giving us a slight windchill tonight. talk about major windchill to the northeast. i have never seen the radar with so much widespread heavy snow than what we're seeing right now. again, historic on many levels as this blizzard could be one for the record books here. maybe not even seen anything this bad since 1978. as we mentioned, for boston, about 3 feet of snow there back into new york 1 to 2 feet with with the winds topping 75 miles per hour. so do expect mayor delays no matter where you're tr

in concord. let's take you through those changes. tomorrow morning, expecting a little bit of patchy coastal fog, not a lot. at 3:00 p.m., complete sunshine over the greater bay area. offshore flow fully in effect. that means a beautiful beach day shaping up. the warmest day of the year so far will be tomorrow. that's where we're expecting peak warmth. on saturday, some changes, the fog rolls back in and this is going to keep your temperatures down just a touch. here's what happens. overnight saturday into sunday, our next storm system comes through. if you want to make those outdoor plans, you're going to get a lot better temperatures and much better weather on saturday than sunday with a few showers moving through. then everything changes through next week. more snow on the way to tahoe. friday into saturday, warmest days in the extended period. then we'll drop by about 10 to 15 degrees in some cases from saturday into sunday. turning cloudy on monday. we need the rain at this point so we'll take it. tuesday into wednesday, i think wednesday is going to be the washout. thursday, a few show

. temperatures appropriately enough, 49 degrees right now in san francisco. 47 in san jose. 40 in concord. napa 45. a little bit of patchy fog as well around some of those north bay valleys this morning. there you see the sea breeze into san francisco right now. visibility may be reduced for the next hour or so around santa rosa, and napa and gilroy. unlike yesterday, we had a lot of clouds spilling up from southern california, which helped block the sun and keep our temperatures down. today we're starting off with more sunshine and we should finish the day with a little more sunshine, too, as all that moisture that was over us saturday now has shifted off to the east. but with winds coming down the coast today, we're going to continue to see patchy low clouds and maybe a little bit of mist around the peninsula coastline and around the north bay. inland locations, temperatures climbing up into the low 60s instead of the mid-50s we saw yesterday. by 3:00, partly cloudy skies moving in from the north. dry into 7:00. you can see a little bit of low cloud cover trying to punch into parts of the sou

this morning. 32 in concord. 44 in san francisco. not much wind now but as high pressure builds in from the west, you'll notice winds picking up slightly into the north heading into this afternoon. chilly start, 30s and 40s to get the morning started. mid-50s, close to 60 this afternoon. we will see warmer days ahead. the mornings are still going to be chilly with patchy frost. and the seven-day forecast looks unfortunately quite dry. here's the reason why. you get high pressure acting like a wall. sinking air and sinking motion in the atmosphere. you won't get storms or clouds to form out of that. you can see how the jet stream is arcing off to the north, diving down east of the sierra. it will stay that way for the next few days. not many clouds out there this morning and we won't see much for this afternoon. maybe patches of low clouds for the coastline. our temperatures today, even in the sunshine, we got a chilly start, it's going to take time to warm up. upper 50s closer to san jose. maybe 60 around pleasanton. san francisco, 57 degrees today. 60 around oakland. 62 in santa rosa.

, this is the driest start, 2013 for all of the cities you see here, sonoma, napa, sfo, redwood city, oakland, concord, hayward, santa cruz running the driest for this record. now, because december was such a wet start to the rainfall season, seasonal totals not looking too bad. but if we stay dry now in the next two weeks, typically one of the wettest times of the year you're going to see these numbers start to drop off even though the snow pack is better than last year which was bone dry. again, these numbers tarting to come down now and starting to lose a chance of seeing rain in the forecast. the culprit is a blocking ridge of high pressure which is taking the active storm track off to the north and subtropical jets to the south. h is going to lead to some clear skies. warm temperatures through the week. warmest day is wednesday, thursday, friday. instead of talking about rain you're going to see this tomorrow. mostly clear skies. patchy of low clouds. morning temperatures, mostly mid 30s to some low 40s for tomorrow morning. and high temperatures tomorrow, a little bit warmer than today. probably

have 5.62 for the calendar year at this point. concord with .48 and should have 4.34. we're in the driest trend ever for january and also february. we're going to get those numbers to flip for us here and we're eventually going to get rain in the seven-day forecast. today was all about the enjoyable sunshine. the warmest down in the south bay. 72 san jose. 77 in santa teresa. and you head up into the north bay 76 in san rafael and 71 in santa rosa. now these winter extremes were all over the board. gilroy, one of our warmest with 79 degrees, san rafael with 7. we were a few degrees away in both of those locations from all-time daily heat today so, again, highly unusual weather that we had today now smack in the middle of february. temperatures are cooling off. down in the south bay a nice night to maybe eat outside. a live look at our sky camera network tonight and this is, as i said earlier, the money shot. as we head into this time of the year, you get a warm day. we have the pollution. that's been making it uncomfortable but visually this is a stunner there in emeryvil

're in the upper 30s in concord and livermore towards santa rosa as well looking chilly this morning. by the afternoon we're going to see everybody warming up into the 60s and low 70s for another day but one thing to watch will be the seabreeze which is going to turn on late today and that's going to lead to some cooling changes through the weekend. right now the radar view is dry and going to say that way through monday, but this high pressure system which has been locked in on us, giving us these warm conditions is going to give way. first you can see this upper level system bringing us the high clouds at times for today, we're going to look at partly cloudy skies for your saturday afternoon but the pattern shift that's going to take place, the high is going to build back to the west of us, allowing this cold front trough to drop in, this is tuesday, so we're going to see temperatures drop from the 60s and 70s today to upper 50s and low 50s by the time we get into tuesday and wednesday so much cooler, rain making a comeback. we need the rain and snow. it's been the driest start to

hate it when people say it's so cold in the bay area. no. not today. 35 degrees in concord. 41 in oakland. 40 degrees in gilroy. throughout the afternoon temperatures are going to be mild yet again. high pressure is the reason why it builds in for today and drives winds offshore as they move from land to sea they warm along the way. they push that marine layer back into the pacific and for us that means it is just going to get better and better temperaturewise. more and more comfortable as we head through friday. developing offshore wind really starts to kick into high gear throughout today and you notice that layer of haze, that particulate matter. unhealthy levels of pollution on the way likely as we head through the the end of the week. 64 in gilroy. 63 in los gatos. temperatures will be mild for today. staying mild all the way through valentine's day and that means if you want to hit the beach, a nice romantic picnic, a bottle of wine and a blanket is all you need. saturday and sunday as well if you don't get chance to get out on thursday because temperatures and conditions
